Ross steering rebuild question on grease

What grease is recommended for the Ross steering system? I did the rebuild last fall and am now having to do this again this spring due I think to a non hardened cam follower. However what I found when I took the steering out the grease looked to have not only been inside (and it was) but plenty was on the outside. I want the grease to be where the work is not hanging around. Maybe the grease was to liquid and made it outside of where it did any good. What grease is recommended on these?

I use John Deere corn header grease.

shows what the grease looks like.

I'm sure it's some special IH or Cub Cadet grease.

I use Marathon Super Maraplex EP-2 grease in my grease guns. It's high temp, and doesn't break the bank. I've pumped a lot of grease.... it's good stuff.

John Deere grease Dale mentioned is good stuff too. I just don't like the logo on the tube. :biggrin2:

I use Pennzoil hi temp grease on all my stuff.

Valvoline crimson extreme pressure Lithium grease is what I found at Auto parts and it not too bad price for a tube either, it also has excellent water washout resistance and good shock load. I thought the red additive was cool:biggrin2:

Thanks guys, the steering is rebuilt and as I had a tube of JD corn head in the gun I went with that. Your right the color of the tube does make it rather hard to use but I did anyways. Although time will tell if it works and stays put. I hope not to have to do this rebuild another time for a while. At least not on this 124. It better be on another cub.

Nothing wrong with green, it is the color of most living vegetation.
Also a large company that has been around when others failed. :bigthink:
