Mower deck help

Been brought to my attention that the middle spindle on my mower deck is shot- but I was also informed they don't make them any more? Does this hold true? What are my options?

Thanks guys!

It is impossible to answer your question until we know the Model Number of your Mower Deck.

:HeadScratch:

Sorry for the lack of info fellas. I am not sure of the model number but it's the orig 42 inch deck off my '71 126. Hope that helps.

I think we need to know what the definition of "shot" is and which style of spindle it is, replaceable bearings or water pump style bearing.

If you don't know, the newer style has tapered bearings like old style vehicle front wheel bearings in an aluminum housing.:beerchug:

So, the tag is gone?

Bearings are available . Old style was a st-745.
New style as stated ad can get at auto parts store.

Take it apart and see which brg you have and if the housings are serviceable. The st-745 is available aftermarket- I think the best price is around $65/each. The replacement assemblies are ~ $155 each new. Both ways you can find used also. The tensioner idler pulley can be rough, the idler arm usually is ungreased even though there is a provision for a zerk. Spring and bolt might need replacement.

I've got mine apart right now. My deck looked quite clean and there were no play in the bearings. I had a bad idler and one bearing was a little rough. Took it a part and broke a second bearing. So rebuilding the idler arm, new idler pulley, bolts/nuts. I haven't decided on new st-745 bearings or new assemblies which are 2x the cost. Either way, the parts are getting a true epoxy primer and sealed to prevent corrosion. Pulleys have a bit of wear- lots of deep rust pits, but I presume if they are still solid- they will work.

So here are some pix. The center pulley is shot as the welds and bearing are toast and I believe that is one assembly. Additionally there's a stack of bearings under that I will need to replace as well. Attached in the diagram pic I need parts 23,29 & 17,18,19,20,30,31. Hope this helps?
