149 Glass treatment on Cyl. Head
2 Attachment(s)
Found some good glass and got it mounted to a board. Used it on my cyl. head.
Do you guys in the know think it looks ok or does it need more sanding? Picture attached I hope. Also a picture of my cylinder and piston. Been rebored at some point in time. No hatch marks visible but no ridge at top of cylinder. Just ran it for a short time to load & unload on trailer when I bought it. Seemed to run good and no smoke. Going to put it back together, clean it good and paint it and give it a try. It will not be used for any work. Have another 149 for the work. Have a great day. Bob |
Not going to claim to be in the know but looks good to me Bob, all uniform and the glass trick is the way to go. Good job

Looks good from what I can see.

Looks good to me too. :beerchug:

Looks good. I used to do that with the mating surfaces on early VW/Porsche fuel pumps I did. Works like a charm. If you want to test it, place the head chamber down on the glass and see if you can get a fine (like .003) feeler gauge under it.

Looks good but I can't see a pattern. Did you sand in a circular motion and keep turning the head 90 degrees to keep it as flat as possible?

Jeff,
When I built the glass board I made it to fit a regular sheet of sand paper. Do not have room to do a circular pattern. I did however rotate it 90 degrees as I was sanding. Should I buy a larger sheet of sand paper and sand in a circular motion? I have room to do this as I just placed the hold down bars to fit a standard sheet of sand paper. All help appreciated. Have a great day. Bob |

I use 8-1/2 x 11 emery sheets ( sandpaper ) and as long as you keep it moving in small circles and turn in, it should be fine. I had a piece of glass that the emery sheet just fit over. the glass was on a piece of plywood and I stapled it down. click for larger pictures http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...h_DCP_5208.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...h_DCP_5207.jpg |
