782 repower

Could you repower a 782 with an engine from an LT1550? It's the 25 horse twin cylinder Koehler engine.

with enough skill and know how you can do anything, the command 18 and 20hp engines are popular engine to repower a 782.

I don't think so!

If I am correct, the engine in a newer LT series is a vertical shaft that runs a drive belt. The 782 is a two cylinder, horizontal shaft engine that is connected to a drive shaft.

There is not a way that I know of that allows one to tip a vertical shaft engine and make it horizontal. The engine will not oil itself.

At the moment, I am working on a 782 as well. Good luck with your project.

he makes a good point, is the engine horizontal shaft or vertical?

I looked at it again, and it would seem that the 1550's engine is a Kohler Courage 25, which is a vertical shaft. Guess I won't be going that route then...

I'd say even a Mag 12, like from a 1211 would be just peachy depending upon how well your search goes for the other engines.

According to what Ive read on Brian Millers sites both the Kohler Command pro and the B+S Vanguard twins can be converted from vertical to horizon shaft positions. You have to do some modifications but apparently it has been done for pulling tractors. I'd like to try once myself.
