My son helped me put blades on.......

A week ago I took the blades off & sharpened them. I used an impact wrench & my son wanted to help. He wanted to put them back on. He took the blade, put it on, then the washer & started the nut on all & then tightened them. I then mowed the yard. The whole time thinking to myself that it wasn't cutting very well. I then took the deck off again & took one of the blades off to try to find a match locally. Fast forward a week when I go to put the blade back on. I notice that the other two do not match orientation of the one I just put on. in my dad role watching my son use the impact wrench, making sure he didn't get hurt, I didn't realize that all the blades were on upside down. So the blade was hitting the grass on the blunt side, not the nice sharpened edge I just created. It mows much better on the sharp side.

Not ashamed to admit I've done this once before. Don't know if I was distracted or what but I put one blade upside down and was not getting a very even cut. Needless to say, deck came back off :biggrin2:

Anywho, props to you for putting being a good dad and keeping your kid safe over getting a blade backwards :beerchug:

I had a friend take a his tractor to a dealer to have it serviced and when he got it back it mowed horribly and he couldn't figure out why, it took me all of 5 seconds to figure out they had the blade on the discharge side on upside down.:biggrin2:

It happens more than anyone will admit :bigthink:
And when it does we usually make up some excuse.
Excuse:
A hell of a good reason,
with a terrible reputation :biggrin2:

That's a teachable moment for both you and your son. None of us are infallible and I have even done the same with my chainsaw. We always have to be prepared to laugh at ourselves. Best to make a mistake than lose the lesson. The main thing is dad and son spent quality time together and everyone was safe!
