First Mow
 

I dug out my 50C Mower Deck for the season. I had some issues with it over the years and this past week, was the time to address them. I had a hole in the leading edge of the deck that needed to be patched. It was the size of about a golf ball. Got that taken care of. Next, I have always hated the way that IH placed the Deck Idler, in that the 11/16" nut, on the under side of the deck, always caught grass and created a build up. Well, that got moved. Relocated it to where this nut is now behind the shroud and out of the way.:ThumbsUp: Next, the hex head bolts that hold down the "belt cover", that also was in the "discharge stream", got removed. I plugged all the holes with J/B weld. Have a new way of securing this cover. Now, there is no obstacles in the "discharge" area of the deck underside, we will see how the grass collects this season. The usual maintenance, grease. New 6" (non IH) rear gauge wheels with roller bearings makes her ride smooth. Now, a new set of Gators, and she cuts like a champ for the first mow of the season.

Working on a design for Front Castors. I will be developing that over the next few weeks.

Yeah come on Roland, where's the pics?? Lol just your first mow? I've mowed 4 times now! Sounds like some good fixes! Happy to hear that someone besides me uses jb weld!

We think alike, several years ago I removed the belt cover bolts and welded studs to the top side of the deck making them studs.
Then the idler pivot got a countersunk allen and the spring anchor bole got the stud treatment like the cover bolts.
So, like yours, there is no obstacles under there to catch/impede the discharge of grass.
It works well, but the grass still sticks to the underside,:angry: but it is a lot easier to scrape off.

So, is this a really bad problem with the 50C decks or are you guys just doing some fine tuning? Reason I ask is I have a 50 C that needs to be refurbished form my 1811.
