Gas cap question
1 Attachment(s)
So here's a brain teaser for you, how is it that everytime I go to mow with the 1211 the gas cap reads empty but by the time I'm done mowing it reads correctly? It's a new cap and the float moves freely and I'm not sure why it sinks just sitting but is fine after I run the tractor a while, even if I take it out and move the float manually and put it back in it still reads empty for the first 15 minutes of mowing.

I just assumed that the PO put on gas gauge/ cap on that is too short so it would read empty even with a half talk. Didn't think about the float sinking when it sat, I've never thought to check it after mowing because it's under the hood on my 1450. Hmmmm :bigthink:

Maybe the indicator is spinning around inside of the plastic dome.hehe

Would be interesting to see if it did the same in ethanol free gasoline, perhaps that has something to do with it. It might also be something about the pressure in the tank. The new style gas caps use a pressed styrofoam and the old ones used cork.

I replaced the cap on my 1200 with one from orscehlens. No gauge leaks a little if you fill it to full, but that's what you get for about $5.

I have a cap/gauge like you mention and the float does not float.
It is a plastic looking float, but when you put it in a container of gasoline it slowly sinks to the bottom, guess that makes it a non float??:bigthink: Weird deal, so I just replaced it with one of those ebay gauges. It don't appear to be saturated with fuel, and is not hollow or anything. Who knows.--- |

Here's a pic after its sat over night, like I said before if I start mowing it will read accurately after about 15 minutes. Just plain weird.

It sucks the gauge doesn't work. May just have to fill and mow an check it with a paint stick or something. I do that with the 1200.

That is weird for sure. On a similar note, the gauge on my 782 doesn't work. However, when I submerge the gauge in a 5 gal bucket of water it will read. Soon as it goes back in the gas tank- nothing, stays on empty. Float looks like new. Not an issue for me as I only put probably 30 hrs or so a yr on it
