Plowing

1 Attachment(s)
This past Saturday, I went to a spring plow day at a local farmer's museum. There were three full size farm tractors with two bottom plows, a fourth with a disc and me with the 122. They looked at me and said "you gonna try plowing with that?" I said "I'm not gonna try, I am." I followed the second tractor. I think they were trying to see who could dig the deepest, which is not the purpose of plowing. Anyway, the furrow was so deep, I almost slid off my seat. But, the 122 never stopped, or bogged down or lost traction. Those guys were amazed, as was I. The ground was a little wet too. They spun and slowed down a little because their plows were so deep. Since the furrows were so deep, they suggested that we, my son and I, go to the other side of the field and we'd all meet somewhat in the middle. It was even wetter over there. But that little tractor just kept going and going. Since we had the small tractor, they also had us go over to a big garden and plow and disc that while they went to another big field. Here's a picture of my son in the mud. All in all, we had a fantastic time.

Never dogged a guy for what he brought to a plow day. I suppose they were just giving you a hard time. :bigthink: :biggrin2: I also never understood people that think they need to sink their plows and plow to china.

I hate when I go to a plow day and people bring a tractor and plow that is not set up properly or they do not know what they are doing and they can only plow 3-4 inches deep. When we plow around here we plow 7-8 inches deep to get all of the trash turned under and buried. It looks to me that you have your Cub Cadet set up right to be able to plow that deep. Looks like you had a great time. Around here you couldn't plow if your life depended on it with all of the rain we have been getting.

I think they were more surprised that I would try to plow with a small tractor; not dogging it. They were friendly. But when they saw the performance of the 122, they all commented and smiled. The small tractors that go to this place are all pullers. They have pulling events quite a few times per year. I wish more of them were there to see a small tractor in the field. I was going to comment and or suggest that they were plowing too deep, but being the new "kid" on the block, I just let them struggle. They all had fun. Maybe after I'm a member there for a while, I'll speak up, just a little. Thank you all for your comments.

Keep plowing Jeff. Maybe next year they will show up with a cub and you can have a real "hoe"down! Glad both father and son have a fun memory.

Next year you need to post up all the info for the event and maybe get some more cubs plowing.
