1961 Cub Cadet
Hello:
I live in Iowa my grandpa bought a cub cadet the first year they where out if memory serves me right. He died 10 years ago and we collected his things a few years earlier and this cub was still running and cutting grass. I put it in my shed thinking of restoring it but come to realize that isn't probably gonna happen. I know the serial number is 976 or 978 with mow deck snow blade wheel weights. Also his bother had bought one at the same time but chassis gone but motor was saved and rebuilt after it was salvaged with some pulleys. Don't know what to quite to do with it probably sell it not sure what it would be worth or where to sell it. It is straight minimal rust the only things that I know not original is started button. front spindle will have to be returned and by just looking back axle bearings shot but highly doubt into races. Would appreciate offers or advice thank you Dean |
Welcome to OCC!!
Post some pictures of your Gr pa's cub and we will be able to advise you better. We might talk you into fixing it, seeing as it was your Gr paw's and the original owner, of a cub original, that does not happen often. :beerchug: |
It would be a keeper if it were mine. Welcome to Only Cub Cadets.

Welcome! I would have to be very desperate to let that go if I were you. Something very special and I fear you'd regret later

Keep all of it. Restore it if you can. :beerchug::IH Trusted Hand:

Speaking from experience, I made the mistake of selling my uncles Original years ago. To me it was just an old lawn mower. Bought a 1210 to mow with. Well after getting into the Cub thing I realized what it was that I sold/ gave away and went and found a Cub O to restore in remembrance of the Uncle that was so special to me. You have a very early "O" that was owned by your Grand Father. For what you'll get for it you can never replace the memories. Even if you just store it away it will not go down in value but once it's sold you can't replace it. It was born 55 years ago and with a little TLC it can run as good as new and be something you can be proud of. This is a good thread for you to look at, it's the restoration of a Cub O by one of our members Zippy1 http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=34439

If you decide that you need to sell the O then I suggest that you read the ad policies.
http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/a...ement.php?f=34 Then post an ad for the O in the for sale section. Pics will help sell it. http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/f...splay.php?f=34 We also have a "What's it worth" section that will help you get a value, again pics will be a big help. http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/f...splay.php?f=61 |

I think you have chosen wisely. It's only Grand Pa's tractor to you, to someone else it's just another Original, or worse, it could get parted out. Keep in mind that you don't have to get all Ramboed up for this project, you can break it down into small bite sized pieces if that makes it easier for you. Although there are those here who couldn't care less about an Original, there are a lot of us here who really like our "O's", you will get tons of help here from some people who are eager to help and who REALLY know what their talking about if you need it. Post pictures and ask questions, then post pictures of your progress and you'll be "one of the guys" in no time. |
