Need some help with my 582 special

I bought the tractor about two months ago. I went up into IL and got a deck for it. It ran great until I put the deck on it. Now when I mow, I have to keep the choke almost all the way out. The only thing I can think of is the float has a hole in it. Can anyone give me any ideas??

If you are having to choke it to keep it running, you arnt getting enough fuel somewhere along the line. Start at the tank and make sure it is clean, And work your way to the carb. Check the fuel line. In line fuel filter if it has one.
It might just need the Carb cleaned.

Well I drained the old gas, thought there maybe some water in it. Also changed the inline filter. It ran find till I started mowing, and it ran like crap again. I'm planning on cleaning the carb this weekend, but wanted to ask you pros first. By the way thanks for the welcome.

If the float had a hole in it, the crankcase would be full of gas and the engine would be running rich. If you have to pull the choke, it isn't getting enough gas. Check all of the things Diz Jr. mentioned. I would also suspect that the fuel pump is getting weak. The rebuild kit for that is like $3, so it's a simple thing to try. If you wind up having to rebuild/clean the carb, make sure you get service manual and follow it closely, as the carbs on these are a bit complex.

I had the same problem with my 582-special and all I did was run double the recomended amount of seafoam in with the gas, it took a few tanks of gas but I no longer have to run with the choke on.

I would recomend putting a fule shutoff in-line if yours does not have one as the crankcase will fill up with gas if the float sticks open.

When I got my 582 special last summer the guy who sold it to me said it would not start and it sat out side for a year.

Crank case was full of gas/oil and the battery was shot, changed the oil, fresh gas in the tank and a new battery and it runs.
