Help with rear lift on 1282.

This is not high on the list right now but sometime this summer I'd like to add a rear lift to my 1282. I don't know what I'd need to make this happen and keep my "Armstrong lift". I'm thinking that might be the cheapest way out right now for me. (laid-off)

1.) Will any 82 series lift work or does it need to be from a manual lift only? I know there has to some yellow/white stuff that would work also. What models?
2.) Are the manual and the hydro lower lifting arms the same? I'm thinking they must be different.
3.) Does anyone have a picture of what I need to look for?
4.) I know finding a whole tractor is cheaper. I'm just needing to learn what I need first.

With the tractor shows starting the first week in May here in Michigan, I'd like to have an idea of what I'll need later. I'd hate to see what I need in at a swap meet and not know it. :bash2:

Thanks for any help, Mich60

You can't just use any 82 series. The lift bar is what needs to be specific towards a 1282. A 682 lift bar may be the same. I'd look up the part number for a 1282 lift bar and then compare it to part numbers for other 82 stlye tractors. The lower lift bracket and upper casting isn't as tractor specific. For example, everything from my tractor would work on yours except lift bar.

I supplied you with a link a month ago to a 1650 for IIRR $165. This had a pump, hydraulic lines, valve/valve mount, rear brakes you don't have now, complete hitch, spare rear wheels/tires, and the whole rearend if you wanted to use it. Also attachment lever that replaces your manual lift handle (not sur if they'll swap though). Also spare steering column, linkages, seat deck, and maybe a couple other odd parts.

The only difference in the frame is that the 1650 has the bushings tack welded on where the casting is attached and I suggested that you remove them and tack them on your frame.

As for the cylinder, if you're patient I've seen them as cheap as $20 on ebay. Lift bar may or may not work, that can be overcome too.

Now the dash and valve handle will be next and they pop up from time to time or again look for a trashed 782 but you're not likely to find one with a hitch so find it as I said on a 1650.

It's all out there and cheap if you look.

Part of my point on the 1650 is that it was running, hell the motor you could have sold for $150 and got your money back.

Well first off, we need to know your serial number. If it is 720000 or below, you need a sleeve hitch. If it is 720000 or above, you need a Cat "0" 3pt hitch. The difference is the rear end. The early ones had a cast rear, while at serial number 720000, they switched to a aluminum rear. If you put a sleeve hitch on a aluminum rear, you'll pull the blots for the lower plate off.

Now the 1282 and 582 use the same lift bar. The 782 and the 682 use a different lift bar. The yokes are all the same. The difference between the 1282 and the 582 sleeve hitches are just that the 582 uses a adapter plate for the yoke, where the 1282's yoke will bolt straight to the frame.

The 1282 lift bar has 2 bends in it, while the 782/682 lift bar is straight.

He has a photo posted of the rear-

I mentioned the 3 point last time, don't think he's up to the $500.

I don't have a 1282 (yet) what causes the difference in the bar?

Well I stand corrected. the 782 lift bar is straight and the 682 bar is the same as a 582 and a 1282. The difference is the manual lift on the 1282/682/582 and the hydraulic lift on the 782.

Scott, thanks for the info on the 1650 a while back but it was just not in the cards for me at the time. I'm thinking of keeping the manual lift and not use a hydraulic and a three point style lift.

AJ, my tractor's S/N is 706395. Looks like it will need a sleeve style hitch. I already have equipment that uses the Brinley style for my "other" tractors.

Thanks for the info guys. I kinda have an idea of what to look for. I'll look in the parts list to see what a lower arm looks like. Now I've got to squirrel away a few bucks.
