Painting Starter / Sealing Battery & Ground Connection
 

Good morning fellow IH CC'ers!

I recently ordered a new starter for my 1650 and would like to paint it black. I have in mind to put the bolts in first before I paint it so I don't paint over the metal that will make the ground contact. I want to use official Cub Cadet black - so my choices are: 1) high temp black and 2) gloss black. I don't want to paint it gloss since the rest of the engine is flat black. So, if I use the high temp black - is it Ok if I don't bake it (I read that high temp paints may have to be baked to set correctly) since it won't get as hot as being directly on the engine?

And, my second question. I recently replaced the wire that goes from the negative of the battery to the frame of the tractor. What is the best way to seal over that connection at the frame to prevent rust / corrosion: 1) paint 2) liquid rubber or 3) silicone? Or, is there something better to use that I have not mentioned? Also, should I seal over the connection at the battery terminals themselves at all?

Just use a rattle can of satin black or flat, what ever you prefer.
The starter will not get hot enough to need high temp. and no need to bake it, it will dry just fine.
2 bolts, and washers on both sides and nuts will keep it paint free, hang it on a wire from one of them for painting.
