800 found, replacement parts?
I found an 800 today stuck in a pile of scrap steel destined for places I'd rather not mention. I've got it scheduled to go back Saturday morning and talk buisness. However it's in very rough shape piled amongst the rubble, which leads me to the question of how much can I replace with substitute parts and still call it an 800? I'm really interested in pulling this one back from the dead. It'll be my shack project for next winter if all goes well Saturday

Only thing that makes an 800 an 800 is the specific 8hp engine and some key pieces. The muffler, air filter housing, starter and of coarse the decals and serial tag. All else is just any other QL.

I believe the aluminum motor plate that the exhaust duct work bolts to is specific as well compared to the other quiet lines. Would like to see some pics. There are some of us that have brought back an 800 that might have been in worse shape :biggrin2:

well I got it, well what's left of it. after talking with the previous owner I'm shocked at what happens to these poor machines. He said it ran great, but the mower deck got bad so they parked it in the edge of the weeds, then they had a guy come in with a dozer and forgot that it was in there :Forgot: . this is the result. Somehow the "important" parts are unscathed. I guess I'm on the look out for a rolling chassis!

Well..... not much left of it.
Air filter housing is right. Starter has been replaced. Duct work is there, but hopefully the aluminum base is still good. FWIW, if it was me, I'd find a QL rolling chassis and put together an 800. Keep the serial tag off the frame and install it on the replacement frame. QL rolling chassis should be easy to find, but they aren't making any more serial tags!! |

It has potential though:beerchug: |
Poor 800!

Ok I stand corrected......you win!
But if all else fails you can get some decent money for those specific parts. I vote to transfer all to another frame. |
john, may I ask how you know the starter has been replaced? it could be useful information someday. thanks.
alvy, i'll pm you my address so you can mail me the trophy:biggrin2: terry c , it doesn't have a straight anything. the pic's don't show it but even the frame is wadded, along with the rims, and the front axle that they managed to snap in half.:bash2: i'm on the watch for a roller. |

Original starter would still be painted black. Original starter is smaller. Frame is notched out to accept larger starter. |
