Tires for 1450 - setting up for tilling

I have a 1450 that came with a #2 tiller that I want to get ready to till up a garden for my wife. The tractor has original tires that sat out in the weather for decades. They are dry-rotted and don't hold air.

I want to put a set of lug tires on the rear and tri rib tires up front. I have some questions:

For the rear tires: I am looking at a set of Deestone 23x10.5-12 tires http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-23X10-50-1...QAAMXQMTlRbHdk Will they fit under the fenders?

Should I go with 6 ply or 4 ply tires? Which would be better and why?

What size tires will fit the rims on my 1450? The original tires are 16x6.8-8. Any suggestions for tires?

Thanks,

Bob

the 10.50's will fit under the fender but i beleive the stock size is 8.50 so the rim width wouldnt be ideal, the front tires will be 16x6.50-8 but the only tri ribs available in that size are firestones and there $70 each. i suggest you take a look at these as a cheaper alternative http://www.millertire.com/products/i...70-60-8-6-ply/ many members have them and say there great.

Stock rears on a 1450 are 23 x 10.50 -12.

Vredesteins

I run the Vredesteins on the front of my 332 with Firestones on the back. You can't go wrong with the Vredesteins. They give great flotation and I have no problems turning. The 332 does however have power steering. The Vredesteins give it that "big" tractor look that I remember as a kid (long time ago) plowing with a 966 International.

Deestone tires are under sized compared to other brands. a 10.50 tire is slightly bigger than a 8.50 of another brand. Check around on the web, there's a lot of people that have said this. Mike

When you say that they are undersized do you you mean the width or diameter?

Thanks for all the suggestions. Are there any other alternatives I should look at?

Cant beat the Deestones on price, $130 a pair at my local tire store. They are a little shorter than others.

Am I better off with 4 ply or 6 ply tires?
