Deck Stop Froze Up
 

My 1641 quit running yesterday, I hooked up another fuel source and it ran fine so I'm replacing the fuel lines and rubber grommets in the tank. While i've got it apart I would like to do something about the deck stop. It's froze up tight, I've had a big wrench on the back and got no movement at all. I haven't tried heat because the gas line is close but I could while I'm replacing it. If nothing works should I cut the bolt that goes through the arm (short piece) or the thread rod? I've soaked it several times in PB Blaster.

They are notorious for bending and breaking the rod that extends out the back of the tractor. Also the threaded end has a smaller diameter left hand thread nut that is screwed onto the end and is loc-tited in and it's a PITA to get off without twisting the end off of the rod. My guess is you will need some heat.

Looking at your pic I think yours has a slight bend in it.

Thanks Sam. I tried my old propane cylinder torch and got nowhere. I been meaning to get a new one that uses Mapp fuel, maybe that would help. I thought about cutting the clevis pin (Cub Cadet 711-3317) but looks like it's NLA. Looks like a business opportunity Sam. You should have about 100 of those made up. Just kiddn.

I may have one of those pins laying around, have to check.

Today I cleaned the fuel tank and replaced the fuel lines and grommets. One petcock was totally blocked with trash and the other was partially blocked. I soaked them in Diesel fuel and blew them out. I tried my little propane torch again and this time it caught fire at the adjustment knob. Time to retire it so tonight I plan to pick up this http://www.lowes.com/pd_387416-743-T...uctId=50126389 . I hope it makes more heat than my old one.

I do have one of those clevis parts. Also have a rod out of a super that has about 1/2 of the threads broken off so you could cut it to the length you need and thread it. Yours for $10.00 plus shipping.

Just came in from the garage, I got it broke loose. This morning before church I went out and took a box end wrench and cranked about 90 degrees of pressure on the rod and heated the pin up . I could not get the pin red but the washer beside it was. I did that two times and nothing moved, I figured I would have to cut it out. After church and lunch I went out to remove the clamp and there was no pressure on the wrench. It must have freed up as it cooled. I soaked it down with PB blaster and started cranking the rod with the wrench until it freed up. I ran it 3 or 4 cycles from the stop screw to the end of the threads until I could go all the way with out the wrench. I considered trying to remove the LH screw but decided to leave well enough alone. The rod is a little bent, It wobbles about 1/4 in when turned. I need to replace the wire cover on the harness above the pin. I melted a little of it. Thanks Sam, hold on to that pin someone will need it.
