Winch mount

Got the winch mount fabbed and ready to use. Planning on using on the 123 for yard work as the 129 in a mowing tractor.

Cool, what do you do with it on the hitch?

That's a good idea; I've been thinking about something like that on the 147 to help get it on and off the truck. If one used a pin instead of a bolt and a connector just below the seat it would be easy to remove/install as needed. I've already got a switch on the panel (previous owner) that isn't being used. Where'd you get it?

Why do you need a winch on a mower?

Isn't it easier to drive the tractor on and off the trailer instead of winch it up and down?

Perhaps this is best suited for a Halloween discussion. I don't know much about these things, but a warlock probably does. It seems a little dirty and embarassing to discuss, but I suppose witches...well,....:biggrin2:,

I was thinking that a guy in the woods who wants to remove a tree that he has cut up, or maybe down brush or small tree from a ravine, but you'd have to be careful on weights so that the cub didn't come to the tree, but the tree comes to the cub!:biggrin2:

I bought a winch and winch mount from Harbor Fright, but I have never installed them. I was considering mounting it on the front of the tractor since someone already drilled holes in the front grille of my cub.

I used to have a "winch"..... but I think it may have been spelled like you spelled it.:biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2:

Perhaps your original question is still applicable, then....why would anyone?

In either event, I used to be married to one, I think sometime early on she had cast an evil spell on me.

If I had a trailer it might be, but since I have only the big ol' Dodge and don't relish winding up under a 750 pound machine I usually don't nor will I let anyone else "drive" up there or back it down.

Besides, I don't wish to be one of these guys:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NOFEBXvcuA (I especially liked the guy sitting on the hood with the 2x6s)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfPD72_ms6o (Ramps optional, won't be doing this with the 147)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kW7Bsz7prHc (This one's a ringer since it isn't a mower - I have a machine like this one - it gives me the willies thinking about it - ever see those guys with the prairie busters balancing on a set of six-by's? Fascinating, talk about skill.)

There are a lot more but I think you get the picture. I learned to keep out of the machines at the lumber mill when I was a teenager and it's still with me.

I have about 30 railroad ties to remove from a section of a side drive I don't use any more. Going to use one tractor to pull the trailer and the other tractor to load the ties.
Better than breaking your back doing it by hand.:bash:
Got it for free so what the heck, took me about 20 minutes to fab up the mount. If I only use it once it's worth the 20 minutes of fab time.
