129 transporting question
 

Hi. First post. First Cub & Great forum.

I bought a 129 from a vague photo and when I went to trailer it we had a difficult time loading it as I am unfamiliar with the hydro on Cubs.

The 129 sat for 4 years but was driven under its power to its resting place. It has been out in the weather and spent much of its life in PA. The two front tires were flat and half off it's rims but the PO's sons decided to put a rope on it and pull it about 35-40 feet to my trailer. Nothing special was done as far as controls go. I think it was in neutral and the brake seemed off. Anyways, the wheels rotated when it was towed but after that they seemed not to while putting it on the trailer deck.

So my questions are:

How do you manually push a hydro 129 around the yard to move it?

Is this worth restoring (I realize that's vague just looking from the photos)?

I would normally do a total tear down and restore but parts are not easy to locate in NC unless I use eBay.

My goal was to pull small 3 point tools and have a powered cultivator but that's looking expensive to get for rusty looking 40+ parts out there.

Any hints on getting the tires back on the rims?

looks worth restoring to me especially for what you paid for it. to put the tires back on the wheels you can jack it up and put a ratchet strap around the center of the tire which should spread the bead to touch the rim and then just add air, put a little soap on the bead to help it seat. id like to point out the 16hp air cleaner and i wonder if you hit the jack pot and someone dropped in a 16hp at some point in its life.

Welcome Ken and congrats on your first Cub Cadet. I agree with Tim ( Olds ) about checking out the engine. Count the head bolts and let us know if it's 9 or 10.

They are worth saving as they are built very well. I have two model 125's that are my go to tractors. Lawn, garden and snow removal.

Well worth putting work 8nto. Change the oil and get her fired up I'm willing to bet it will just go. The reason it rolled easy then didn't is cuz it prolly lost its prime (trans pump) and rolling it a little bit helped it prime back up now your pushing against fluid. There should be a lever on the side of the removable tunnel cover just in front of the seat that will push down on the release valve if the flap isn't broken. If it is you can remove the tunnel and push them down by hand. Its got potential

Looks good to me, interesting top nose piece. Visit our sponsors at the top of the page and place an ad in the wanted section for parts you will need, many wide frames were made and parts aren't that expensive for that series. Even if you have the "jackpot" model :biggrin2:

Looks like your flapper (dump valve lever) is broken from your 1st photo, so you will need to remove the tunnel cover and depress the buttons on the top of your relief valves if you want it to free roll. You did very well for yourself to get that one for such a nice price. Let's see a picture of the top of that engine!!

Couldn't agree more. Noticed the flapper is pointing the wrong way.
