Tach for the 982
Had a gift certificate to Cabelas for the past year and didn't know what to buy. I found a SenDek Tach/Hour meter. Simple install, wrap the lead around a plug wire a few times and press it into the crimp on the rear of the unit. I decided not to butcher my dash and installed it with double sided tape, and routed the lead thru the lift handle opening. I thought that my high idle was too high (by ear) and found that I was correct, but only as it's recovering from a load. As I was tilling yesterday, it would stay around 32-3400 rpms, but when the load started easing, it creeped up to 39-4100 rpms. I'm going to grab the manual and re-set the carb.

I'm not familiar with the Onan's but on a Kohler that could be fixed by an adjustment of the governor spring.

You may want to read up a little on tachs before you go changing your settings. I would not trust that tach you have. Look into the Kirk tach installation....coil motors give off a magnetic interference that effects tack readings...Kirk addresses this. Scott |
