Hey Guys,
I'm re-wiring a garden tractor and need help with the letters on the back of my new key switch. The garden tractor is equipped with a starter generator, solenoid, voltage regulator and a Solid State Ignition. Please help! I included a picture to help.

Well its not exactly a Cub- it's a 1967 Sears Surburban with 10 HP Tecumseh engine.

this is just a guess.

g= ground
b=battery
s=start
m=magneto
l=lights

I believe you can google up a wiring diagram of this machine.

The switch... I assume G is Ground, B is Battery, S is Starter (or solenoid), M is Magneto (or motor) and L is Lights. Three position switch...off, on and start. To kill the ASS-U-ME theory with a meter or test light, verify that : At off, only B is hot. At on, B, M and L should be hot. Continuity is established between B to M and B to L. S is Dead. At start position, B, M and S should be hot. Verify continuity between B and M, and B and S. L is dead.

Been my experience the "M" (magneto ) terminal is grounded in the "off" position
( magneto kill wire)
so that would be another configuration/variance.

thats what i would assume, there should be continuity between the b and m terminal in the off position.

No, not what I said.
Magneto is grounded to kill Magneto in off position.
if it was connected to battery in off position, it would be powered.
