Older Cub 1050
I stumbled upon a 1050 for sale for a good price. Tractor only, no deck or other attachments. The seller says it runs great with no problems. My boy has been wanting a tractor to start pulling with. Not sure if this is a good base to start with or what. Is there anything on these that I should pay close attention to before purchasing?

You may want to ask your question in the puller section.

1050's are a pretty low production machine and IIRC they had a weak gear in the transmission.

I would say a 1050 is more of a collector's item than a puller. I have seen several in the last few years that the transmission was bad.

Thanks for the replies! Aside from the weak trans gear, would it be a good buy for $150? I haven't heard it run yet but am told everything is in good working order. Was thinking about getting it for my boy and if nothing else I could find a deck for it and let him use it to mow. He's been wanting his own tractor for awhile now and even if it wasn't a competitive puller, he could still take it to the local pull once a year just for the experience. And I think it could be a good piece of equipment for him to learn how to maintain and take care of. By the way he just turned 10, so he wants to do anything and everything involving driving and operating any kind of powered machine. I never use my 1772 for mowing until this year he talked me into sliding the deck underneath it so he could use it. Now I can't get him off of it!!!

For $150 I doubt you could go wrong, good luck with the project.
