Wider wheel spacing on 147
 

We have standardized our growing beds to 4' centers on our 2.5 acre CSA farm and this works with the AC G for cultivating, and even fits (sort of) the Kubota that we have access to. Soil compaction and the weight of the machinery going over the field is a concern, so the beds remain permanent. We are looking for a better way to spread compost over the tops of the beds, the Kubota has tires that are a bit too wide, and it's heavy. Is it possible to modify the wheels on an IH 147 to be 4' on center? Or at least just the back ones where most of the weight will be when we haul the trailer full of compost? I don't want to use the cultivating tractor for this chore if I don't have to even though it's tires are 4' centers. Any thoughts?

Custom width wheel spacers would work. How much wider do you need to go?

The wheels right now are 28" on center so I would need 10" added to each side. That seems pretty far, would it be compromising anything with that distance? I think I would also need taller ties so the bottom of the tractor would clear the beds. It would end up being a pretty goofy looking Cub, but if it's doable, I like the idea. Like I said, soil compaction is a big consideration, and I would like to use the lightest machine possible when driving down the field.

A set of dual wheel adapeters would work you just wouldn't put the inside wheel on, I recommend talking to member Jeff in PA about it.
