Drive Shaft Pillow Bearing on a Stock 102
Okay I have tried to search the forum on this. I have a stock 102 in which I am in process of putting a red spring and aluminum clutch. I do plan on pulling with it in the future in a off the lawn/ stock altered class. Everything else is stock on the tractor with future motor plans, so my question is, I have a pillow bearing block. Should I put it while I have everything apart or is it not necessary with my RPMs I will be running? I have the stock flywheel and my club that I want to run in allow a max of 4,000 RPM.

if you put the red spring in I'd put the center support in. its not just the RPM's its the amount of pressure that is put on the snap ring on the input pinion . it will keep from popping the snap ring off and pushing the pinion back.

Alright perfect, that is exactly what I am looking for. Now Should I mount it the cross brace of the frame? Or is there already a write up this that I could not find in my search?

Can anyone point me in the right direction on how exactly to mount this pillow bearing? Thank you

Okay that thread helped a lot but I need a little help clarifying if I have a short or tall tunnel. Based off those pictures in the thread I think I have a short tunnel just like Sam Mac.
Since this is not a true dedicated puller I don't want to cut an access hole. I do have the quick coupler from Zach Kerber Machine that I will use. |
That looks like a tall tunnel but if you have a picture with the dash installed I could say for sure. Edit: after looking at it on a PC I can say with confidence it is a tall tunnel.

Thank you for the clarification. Austin8214 you had commented on the Sam Macs thread that I will need to bolt or weld another cross brace. Have you done this before in the past with any of your Cubs? If so what did you use? I have some 1/4" scrap steel and I have 1/2" scrap steel about 2" wide. Where exactly did you mount it because I will still be using the stock lift arm for my attachments.

1/4" is fine. It's best to mount it so the bearing is right up against the split collar on the driveshaft. I'm not sure if this will be in the way of your rockshaft as none of mine have one.

See that is my current issue as well. Maybe I could mount it closer to the clutch spring then it shouldn't interfere with the lift arm for my attachments. If anyone else could chime in and give their insight I would appreciate it. Thank you
