Engine swap or snowblower swap?
So...I have an 1800-series hydro, to call it a beater would be charitable, with a kt-series twin that is on it's last legs...I bought this tractor for the big honking snowblower, I think it's by Danco or Haban--it's the one with aircraft cable to turn the chute.
How hard would it be to swap a k-series kohler into it? Or for that matter how hard would it be to modify my 108's frame to be able to mount that blower? Or is there just part of the snowblower mount needs changed? It looks like I would have to bore a 3/4 hole right through a weld on each side of the frame. The 108 isn't a museum piece, it's a working tractor... Thanks, Brian |
The 1800 series Cubs rolled out of the Factory with a Kohler M-18 (Magnum). You must have some sort of transplant if you have a KT-17 in it.

Not sure, it's a horizontal-crankshaft kohler opposed twin. Maybe it is an M18. Either way, it sounds like spontaneously disassembly is imminent--and my old 108 just keeps going and going and going...and I have a spare fresh rebuilt K301.
But these are working tractors; I guess what I'm asking is if it would be less fuss to put that snowblower on the 108 than it would be to do an engine swap on the 18xx... |
The 1210 came with a single cylinder Kohler and was basically the same tractor, I've never seen one in person to know how they did it but it would be possible provided the engine your using has an electronic PTO and flywheel starter.

After a fair bit of research, I conclude it's an 1811, with a red rattle-can paint job and hood labeling from a pack of peel-and-stick letters. I think I need to post my question over in the implements forum

I think we're gonna need some pictures of this thrower/blower. Measuring across the front would also be helpful.
From your description it sounds like you have a CW 36 thrower, I could very well be mistaken but I know of no later model thrower or blower that uses a cable to rotate the chute. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about this. Does your 108 have a creeper gear? |

There's a CC label on it appears to read 1943581 cub cadet Cleveland. The telescoping driveshaft on the left side, is square.
I have the creeper for my 108 but haven't installed it yet. |
When I bought my 108 [real cheap] it had a 7hp kohler in it. It now has a fresh K301 12hp...and I have a fresh 12hp spare, and a 16 or 18 cam somewhere...and a serious [Bridgeport] milling machine, but that begs a question for the kohler forum... :-)

OK I got a better pic of the label, how about 194353100...which would be a Haban H42? Square drive shaft, cable chute rotation, 3 bolts attaching the skid plates?
