New Guy in Southern Ohio

Hello all!

New to the form but have been trolling looking for info for a few weeks now.

A bit of history on my cubs. I learned on a cub 1250. We moved with that for many many years and when we moved to a place with 20 acres (not all grass) we upgraded to a 1772 in addition to the 1250. Fast forward to me buying my first house, I traded my dad some work for that 1250 and mowed at my new place for 4.5 years (I'm still amazed that old things keeps going). He has since upgraded to a new cub with a yanmar diesel with loader. The kicker? He didn't want to deal with selling the 1772 and wanted the 1250 back for his vacation house in upper Michigan. So I traded him my 1250 for the 1772. Pretty good deal if I say so myself.

Unfortunately the PTO decided it wanted to retire so it seized and took out the shaft stub. I've got it torn down and working on finding someone to cut a new keyway into the old shaft. So most all the pics I have of her are all torn apart. I do have the side panels and usually run it with them on.

My only complaint about this is the horrible lose steering. It's a challenge to mow a straight line haha

Welcome fellow Ohio person.

Yes, the cub steering dance becomes a common problem with age.

Thanks for the welcome.

I was out cleaning up the frame last night (waiting on parts) and I think a large part of my steering problem is the center pin. Looks like a winter project to take the front axle off and replace the bushing.

Welcome fellow Ohioan. Where in southern ohio you from? I'm from Bellefontaine, west of Columbus.

Welcome Buckeye!! I am not from Ohio....and I do not live in Ohio, or at least I don't think that I do.:bigthink: Who knows? Perhaps I do. Well, anyway, you have a good looking tractor there, but your dad still has you on wisdom as he knew the IH cub cadet was better built than the MTD one. That and perhaps easier to work on, too.

Glad you are member to the forum and enjoying that hobby that so many of us do. I am looking forward to reading your future posts and seeing you get your cub back in square for those straight lines in your yard. In the meantime, mow with a beer in your hand and one of those funky hats that have straws hooked up to two other beers and the lines will all start looking straight to you. :biggrin2:

Yes, the 1250 is definitely WAY easier to work on. I always had it ready for the summer in a hour. Maybe two if the carb was leaking again.

This one takes me a few hours. And I always pray I don't need to replace either of the motor's belts. But the bigger deck and power make up for some of that.

I'm about 30 minutes east of Cincinnati.

General Update:
Parts are on their way. All that's left to purchase is a new fan belt. Hopefully time permits me to start reassembly next week. I'll post a few pictures of that and possibly a video. I may start a thread showing what I had to do just so others can reference it.
