Got a Smoker! Now what?

Found this 1782 at an online equipment auction kinda by accident. Basically bought it sight unseen. Only 745 hrs. If the clock is right. Runs a little rough, smokes a little. Looks like it's just been used a lot I don't think the deck has ever been off. Everything looks ok just really really dirty. Now I'm going to read all the old threads concerning diesels I can find on here...:bigthink:

Is this much smoke from this vent tube bad?

Cool find! You know you are bringing home a man's mower when you have to take the deck off to get the tractor on the trailer cause the deck is too big :biggrin2:
Congrats

Looks like it's pretty tired to me.

Going to have to agree with Sam on this one. Looks like its coming out of the "road draft tube" (in big rig talk) usually "puffs" a little out of there, that looks like its coming out steady.... Lots of blow by I would bet. Put a compression tester on it and do a leak down as well if you have the equipment. That will tell you a good bit right there.

I might not be seeing it right on this phone but that looks like a lot of moisture. It surely has been puffing a lot out the vent tube.
