PTO not engaging
I have a CC 1541 where recently, the PTO will not engage after I have mowed for a short amount of time. It doesn't turn off on its own, just won't re-engage if I stop it. The next day, it works again and the process is repeated. I'm pretty sure the clutch is the problem, but I have limited experience fixing these things. How to I check to see if the PTO clutch possibly went bad?

My first guess would be field coil. My 782 did the same as you've described.

Welcome to OCC. Have you checked the air gap of the clutch? Pretty easy job, just download the manual for your tractor and it will walk you through it. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Check the electrical connections as well, had a similar issue with my 2182, it was just a bad connection within the junk connector.

I adjusted the gap to .017 according to manufacturer specs, no luck there. So I took the clutch apart and found that the field is no longer operating. Now ordering a new/used field and will let you know how it goes. Thanks for the input.
