Does anyone else use wide rows?

30 some years ago Garden Way (the people that made the lifetime warranty Troybilts) had a gardening show on tv every week with master gardener Dick Raymond sharing tons of gardening info. I learned a lot from the show and the book he wrote.

One of his ideas that works well for me is wide rows. The only "weeding" I did in these pics was running the tiller between the 2 wide rows.

Yup, we do wide rows but not due to that show I don't think. I am inherently lazy and figured that burning of fossil fuels in a tiller was a much better use of my time and resources than to cultivate calluses on my hands.

My dad used that same method for years...veggies grew very nicely. He did not have a Troybilt tiller but a front tine unit. My sisters and I did the weeding and cultivating. Your beans look great! Did they produce well? Anymore pics of the garden?

That was an older pic. Between work and all the wet weather :bash2:, my garden isn't very pretty this year. I am only home 2 days a week and have a quarter acre garden. I couldn't get in with the tiller for over a month. The beans did ok this year, but I think wet "feet" affected them.

I couldn't garden without my Troybilt. Here's a pic from last year that shows how easy weeding is. One pass and all those weeds are gone.

I'd be hard pressed to garden without my TroyBilt as well. Mine's an older 'iron' one with an 8-horse Magnum. I have the Garden Way book 'The Joy of Gardening' and I've read and re-read it several times while watching the grill and sipping an adult beverage or two. Your corn looks like you used the hiller 'wings' to bring soil up around the stalks. I need to get one of those hiller attachments or look into making something at work. The wide rows are a good thing.

If you liked the show you should check out the book. I've never seen the show but I've had the book for years and it's still my favorite gardening book. Lots of good tips and ideas.

I do have the book. I've read it forward and backward.

It's in my first post, but I didn't make a big point about it.
