682 dozer blade not staying on

I have a factory IH 42" dozer blade for my 682 that I repainted and refurbished. If you plow with it forwards, everything is fine. If you back drag at all, after a few passes it wants to walk off the tractor. Has anyone had this problem and what have you done to fix it? I'm thinking of making a bracket that when the blade is connected, bolts the blade bracket to the tractor so it doesn't move until it's unbolted. Sound reasonable?

I actually had this happen last winter in the middle of a snowstorm. What I did was take a small tow strap and put one hook on the blade subframe and the other on one of the crossmembers that the footrests mount to and tightened it up. It's not elegant but it got the job done.

Sounds to me like the Quick attach bar is not working properly, may be bent/broken or the spring/s may be missing or broken.

I agree with Sam on the quick attach spring. Also check to see if you have any issues with the snow blade frame itself.

Thinking the same, or it's just all worn out, and not keeping the sub frame hooked in....

The 54" Haban attaches to my 2072 using the quick attach system, but also uses a bolt into the tractor frame on the side. Can you drill a hole through the plow subframe and tractor frame and put a bolt though it?

I think there's a place to bolt it. Also, the blade seems twisted like one side is higher than the other. Has anyone had that and how did you fix it?

Your mount may be damaged and not letting it latch in properly, or the a frame on the blade is bent or broken.

Now that we know it's twisted, that may change everything...

The sub-frames aren't all that sturdy when it comes to being twisted. I had one that was, so I raised the blade, put something under it to support the low side, let it back down and stood on the high side and bounced up and down a little. IIRC had to check it a time or two but it came out good. It was pretty bad but it didn't take much to get it back level again.

Once you get it twisted back straight, it may latch properly. If not, you're gonna have to get under there and find out what's wrong.

The spring on the latch is not missing is it?
