Gravity Fed Fuel system - LOL!

Well, I was reminded this afternoon about simplicity... I thought I had a problem with my ignition again, but found I had spark... tore a bunch of stuff apart, came to the carb, looked right, fuel in the fuel bowl.. shot some carb cleaner in there and she fired up for a sec.. OK fuel delivery problem, tore the entire sediment bowl apart, only to realize after replacing O-Rings etc.. I was on a pretty good incline (the carb facing uphill)... got the flash light out.. and realized.. that tank has a false side in it.. the gravity feed is over there a ways.. so where I thought I should be getting fuel because it had plenty in the tank.. nope... LOL! These things work because they are simple... but you have to remember these things... funny thing, older neighbor walked by and said, "you know my husband was mowing our yard and ran out of gas".... I assured her this was an ignition problem not a fuel problem.... ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR ELDERS!

Been there done that :ExtremeFunny:
Glad you got it going.

no longer than i've had the 149, i've learned one valuable lesson. the K.I.S.S. method is paramount when dealing with these machines. don't overlook the obvious. we've all been "programmed" to find the "impossible" solution when in reality the simplest one is usually the correct one. i laugh at myself more often than not when i'm tinkering with my cub.

I have been considering adding a second fuel tank to the back with an electric pump on it. So when I run out I can use it to refill the front tank. I ran out yesterday, and had to borrow some gas to get it going.

Ah....simplicity, a good mower and a good way of engineering!! The new cubs this year went back to gravity fed fuel systems.....hmmmm, never change a winning strategy (Charles M. Shulz--Peanuts!!)

Hey, atleast you didn't spend an hour tinkering, only to find that the fuel shut off valve was off. Been there, done THAT.

LOL, I do that once a week. I don't know why but mine puts off a lot of vapors. So I shut the valve any time I put her up. Did that twice this weekend!

I was going to start replacing my points/ coil and all I had was a dirty gas tank..

I fought a dirty/leaking gas tank on my Troybilt Horse. I finally bought a pint of Redkote and sealed it. I have had no more problems with the tank since. It stopped the leak, and sealed the rust.
