Positive Battery Cable Cub 149
1 Attachment(s)
Getting ready to install new wiring harness and was wondering if this new Battery cable is heavy gauge enough to use. This is what local Cub dealer sold me as a replacement. Attached picture shows old Cable and new red Cable. Your input will be appreciated. Have a great day.

What gauge is that, looks like maybe 6ga - 8ga? I'd think it'd be just fine.

Hopefully you didn't pay the $27 plus dollars that the cub cadet parts lookup wanted. The wire looks to be a 12 possible 10 gauge wire. I would go to a local auto parts dealer and get a 8 gauge wire. You may have to buy the wire and terminal ends and make the length you need. Odds are it will cost you half the price cub cadet wanted.

I hate to say it but I did pay $28.00. for the cable. I was trying to keep everything pretty much as original as possible and this was the replacement. I have had my 149 apart for a couple years and bought the new cable a few months ago. Did not realize it was not as thick until today. I just work on the tractor as I feel like I am able to. At my age, that is not too often. I was at NAPA the other day and saw some heavier gauge cables already made up. Will have to check the length and the price. Thanks for the input and have a great day.

8 gauge wire would be best,i used to get alot of my electrical wire and terminals from a boating store. i figured if its made for exposure to water, its better then the made in china stuff you get elsewere. they also sell the heavy gauge wire by the foot as well

I usually go the the local stereo shop and buy 8 guage wire and ring terminals , I usually buy enough to do 2 tractors and it cost about $20.

Thanks for the replies. Will try to return the cable from the Cub store and purchase 8 gauge wire. Hope to get this 149 back together before winter.
Have a great day. Bob |
