44C and 44A mowing decks

I'm sure this has been talked about many times so I apologize in advance.

I have a couple of 1650's and three mowing decks for them. Two 44A's and one 44C. I am currently doing a total rebuild on the 44C deck with the matching mule drive. Besides the center pulley, front mule drive pulleys and moving the deck hangers to the outter holes on the deck what else needs to be changed in order for me to hang the C deck under my 1650?

Looking at the C mule drive next to the A drive there are considerable differences. the C drive seems beefier and the middle secition of the mule drive is curved where as the A's aren't. Can i change that middle section out with an A portion so the deck can hang with out belt interference?

I'm not sure if I have articulated myself well enough there. I'll post pictures if needed.

Thanks again! If there is a thread that already answers this can one tell me how to find it?

I moved a center pulley from a 44a deck to a 50c deck for use on a 1450. I've only used it once so far but it worked great. I think I only have 'A' mule drives but would have to check.

The 44a deck uses the straight pulley setup in front and the 44c deck needs the angled pulley setup in front because the center pulleys on the decks are not in the same place. The 44c center pulley is not centered with the tractor. I have a problem with the belt, I have a 44c deck and need a belt. Shopping on line I have come up with two different sizes for the same number belt. Which one is correct.

I'm thinking the quietlines a series were angled slightly?? And the c series 82 model Cubs were straight?

I think both the 44A and 44C have the same pulley positions, and both need an angled mule drive. IIRC, the 44c uses a wider belt (would have wider pulleys on both the deck and the mule drive) because the 82 series tractors have a wider pulley on the PTO. It's like 1/2 inch vs. 5/8 inch belts. (or is it 3/8 and 1/2? not sure).,

Either way, to use a 44C on a QL, just change the center drive pulley on the deck to a smaller diameter (to keep the blade speed up) and proper belt size. Continue to use the 1650's mule drive.

looks great! Did you put slip plate on the bottom?

IH1650Cub 08-11-2015 11:00 AM

Tim,

whats the slip plate?

It's just a coating (paint) that many put on the underside to help grass from sticking. It's not a part you are missing
