125 VR issue?

I decided to rebuild the carb on my 125 before I put it into storage. I fired it up and sat there admiring my work. Turned the key off and she just kept running. I thought this doesn't seem right. So while it's running I remove the positive cable and she just keeps on going. Choked it to kill it. So I guess the S/G is working but the voltage reg is stuck? That's the only thing it could be right?
I guess the switch but that doesn't sound likely. I looked at the wiring diagram and maybe I should look for PO mod

Might be the starter solenoid is stuck.
With the key in the off or run position, you shouldn't have voltage on the output side of the solenoid.

Thanks I'll check that. Sure a weird problem though

Was it cranking, or running?
If it was running, it is most likely a short, or a bad key switch. If it was cranking, it could be the vreg, solenoid, switch or a short.

The are two possibilities that would cause an engine to keep running. It would be a constant source of power to the positive (+) side of the Ignition Coil. This of course is assuming the tractor is wired correctly and has the correct parts.

(A) The Ignition Switch is bad. Most likely the problem
(B) A short in the wire harness providing a constant supply of 12VDC to the (+) terminal on the ignition coil.

Decided to see if this problem was still there this morning. Checked if key was off, went to hook up battery and there was a faint spark when the cable touched the post so I guess it didn't fix itself in the night.:biggrin2: Unplugged the switch and grabbed the VOM. Showed continuity between bat and ign no matter what position the key is in. Mr.Bedell was correct. Grabbed another switch from a parts tractor and all is well.
Thanks everybody for the help.
