Cub 1200 Clutch & Brakes

Gentlemen.... my 1200 cub (now running thanks all your suggestions)...I have no clutch or brakes.. they were deteriorating prior to being parked years ago. Helpful Hints? I have to start it in gear and pull it out of gear stopping on flat ground to stop. I am man enough to do this, but obviously i want it back to being right. Where do i start? My dad and i put brakes on it about 5 years prior to it being parked, and it was used very little after that.. so i can't imagine that it needs "brakes."

(A) Have you got a copy of the Service Manual.

(B) Have you gone here for Parts Lookup.... Parts Lookup

I do have both.. i'll look at them this evening.. i don't have good internet at home, so thought i'd throw this out there while at work for helpful hints. Thanks for your guidance.

IF...the tractor is wired correctly, and IF it has the correct parts, then in order for one to start the engine, you have to depress the Clutch/Brake pedal and have the PTO switch in the off position.

Everything that's "in place" (ie clutch, brakes, etc...) is factory. I started riding this tractor around when i was about 4 years old.. It's never had a "switch" on the clutch that would prevent it from starting with the pedal not depressed. I fully understand the reasons why it's there, but i'm not concerned w/that part. Basically, what i'm after is adjustment / lubrication / etc... I'm certain i'll have to lube some stuff (rusty or old nuts & bolts)...

Agreed, but if the clutch isn't functioning (frozen clutch plates) pressing the pedal will not release the clutch, but will activate the switch so you can start it. If it's in gear it will go.

I believe in another thread he stated his cub has been sitting a few years. It sounds like something in the clutch is not working. If you put the tractor in neutral and lock the parking brake see if the tractor will roll. If it won't move, the brakes are fine. They won't stop a tractor in gear, so they may still be fine.

Thanks Berwil.... You're correct.. been sitting for quite a while... The clutch / brake pedal does basically nothing. It's never had a switch on it, so i'm not concerned w/that part at all... Letting pedal up, or depressing it will not stop the unit, nor disengage the clutch for gear changing, etc....

Pardon me Roland for not being up to par w/your requests. I'll try to do better.

Berwil, Thanks for your response as well. I'm eager to read more.

This unit have wet brakes or dry brakes?
Let's start there if it truly is a brake problem.

Sounds like he has clutch release problems that need to be sorted as well.
