Cub 1200 no power to starter
Greetings all.. my first time on here. long story short.. have two cubs. 1975 Cub Cadet 1200 & 1976 Cub Cadet 1200. 1976 was acquired from my dad's neighbor when he passed. 1975 was my dad's.
History: 75 ran up until about 4 yrs ago. parked it. Decided to resurect it.. towed to garage. battery dead. put charger on it to have power to play with. I have power to elec lift, power to solenoid, but no power out of solenoid to starter. Replaced grounds, replace hot wire to starter. Power at the coil. Already done: (all these were swaps from the 76 that runs to MY 75.) swapped coils, swapped solenoids, swapped ignition switch. EVERYTHING that i "think" could be the problem. With all those parts on the opposite machines, the 76 still runs, the 75 still has no power to the starter. (engine will turn / not locked up) I'm at a loss here, short of pulling all wiring out and starting from scratch. (yes, i checked all the fuses and replaced) Any helpful hints? |
When you have the key in the start position is there power coming out of the solenoid ? Did you check the wire running from the solenoid to the s/g for continuity?
|
i did not check that, but will this evening or tomorrow. what's the s/g?
|
S/g = starter generator but I just realized yours just has a starter.
|
ahh, duh... sorry.. it does have a generator also i believe..that's what keeps battery charged right? but, yes, i did replace the hot wire coming from the solenoid to the starter.. completely bypassed the factory one. when i jump the solenoid, the engine turns.

You're correct about the starter / generator / stator. OK, i'll check wires when in key is in start position and post back.. but it'll be one day first of the week before i can get my hands back on it. I did reground the solenoid though, thinking that may be it too.. regrounded starter... nothing as of yet. Weird part is that all the "elec parts" i swapped from the running one to the non, worked on the running one, and the non, still won't hit... it's like there's a circuit that's open and not supposed to be (or closed and not supposed to be) that's preventing power from getting out of the solenoid. No circumstance that i've tried thus far, has produced power out of the solenoid. :bash2:

Also check the safety switch on the clutch pedal
|
it doesn't have one that i know of... i grew up riding and mowing on this thing 35 years ago... it'll start in gear. No switches that i'm aware of.

It should have a safety switch on the clutch/brake ,wiring diagram shows it .Also the PTO switch has to be off, been there done that one.
