An 1811 returns to the family

I don't know if many (or any) of you will remember, but about a year or so ago I had two 1811's roaming around my yard. Long story short, they both went away, mostly to fund bigger/better/newer machines. Well one of the two got sold to a good friend of mine about an hour away (a member but sporadic poster here). He then sold it to his neighbor, who recently sold it back to my buddy. Well my brother recently moved back to town and bought a house but needed a mower for his large (long) yard. So guess which one I zeored in on? :biggrin2: This is also the mower he rode over 3 hours each way with me to pick up so he's somewhat invested in it as well.

Picked it up and delivered it last weekend and he got to cut his yard for the first time in his life with a riding mower (he's always lived downtown and never had a yard big enough for a riding mower). This is his first GT and I think he likes it!

Got it, mowed, and was happy as a pig in youknowwhat about it. However, at the price we/he got it for, it does have a few small issues that I'm sure we can iron out in no time with some classic brother time.

- Surges at idle, I'm sure a carb cleaning, new fuel line, and a new fuel filter will smooth this out
- Trans leaks, seems to be the trunnion shaft seal on the "passenger" side of the mower
- Could use a new seat but that's small potatoes
- Needs one headlight re-hooked up, who knows what happened to it :bigthink:
- A good wash and wax!

Other than that, it should last him a long time to come! This is a mower I replaced the engine in as the old one had many issues (low compression on one side, leaking oil lines, etc). So I nabbed a low (4xx hour) engine from an 1862 locally and swapped it in.

Kinda cool how this mower has come full circle. Hopefully with a little elbow grease we can have her back up and in top shape in now time. Hope you guys enjoy :beerchug:

That is cool that it came back. How long since you sold it?

Cool story! Looks like just in the nick of time, that grass is getting long.

That front end reminds me of that Wallflowers song, "One Headlight"

That's a cool story. I wish one of my Cubs had a story. All mine are" I went to a guy's place and gave him money then brought it home.

Cool story. I would like to have a 17/1811, but I've never seen one for sale around here. Hopefully some day.

Thanks guys! It's great to see a good machine come back to someone that will give her a good life. My brother and I will keep it mechanically sound, and he will keep it clean as a whistle (he can be a neat freak like that :biggrin2:).

It's actually almost exactly 1 year, a little more I believe but close enough. She came back a little worse for wear (and covered in grass and such) but nothing we can't handle. Now I'm on the lookout for a front blade for it for snow duty, then a lawn sweeper, then an aerator, then...well, you can all see where this is going :biggrin2:

Very warmin' homecoming.

I'm sure, neat freaks are good for Cubs, all'll be great.
