What Engine does my 782 have?
I was changing the oil in the Cub Cadet 782 I purchased last month and noticed the air cleaner says Kohler series II on it when I do know that most of these came with the series I engines. I am basically trying to find out if this is the original engine with a series II air cleaner on it or if it is a replacement engine? It does have the block off plate with the two allen bolts on the front right hand side of the engine. The tag on the engine says the following-
Model- KT17S Spec. No. 24302 Serial # 2232904076 |
It is a series II because of the oil filter blockoff and the spec number that is higher than 24300.

Would this be the original engine to my 782 the serial number is 2050594U693032? Also are the series II motors good engines? Any trouble spots that I should watch for with these engines?

No, that's a replacement engine. Tractors in the neighborhood of S/N 724,000 and below had series I engines. The series II is a pretty good engine. There are two things I'd watch for though. One check the oil before every use, because if either the fuel pump or carb develops a problem, the crankcase will fill with gas. For the same reason, it's a good idea to add an inline shutoff between the tank and fuel pump. Sometimes these engines will drop the governor gear, but there isn't really anything you can do to prevent that.
