1200 clutch

Well got the parts for my clutch, but while having it apart noticed a nasty bend in the drive shaft. So today will be working on straightening it in the times I have between actual work projects.

For the cost of the steel to replace it, it's not worth trying to straighten. You won't get it perfect anyway. Just get some 5/8" cold-rolled steel or even 4140 pre-hard and make yourself a new one.

Lol, done already, have the equipment and gages at work to do it right. Straight as an arrow now.... Question though, I did notice that the drive line is angled down as if the motor is sitting too low in the rear. How bad of an idea would it be to shim it?

Have you checked the condition of the engine mounts?

c02cutter 04-21-2010 12:46 PM

Yes they are in ok condition, will be replacing them with solid mounts. Not liking the angle at which it sits. with straightened drive shaft there is about an inch of downward deflection at the transmission coupler. Actually i think more as there is angle between the drive plate and clutch, drive shaft is resting on frame at that point, but the deflection is such that motor is too low in rear. Guess I'll be pulling it farther apart then i thought I would have to at this time.

Got it back together, though now dealing with shifter issue... LOL, this is going to keep costing I see.
