Kohler KT17 series 2 electrical question

I bought this electronic fuel pump for my 782. The instructions say I should install a relay controlled by the ignition. I am not sure what this is, and where can I find such a animal? Thanks for any input.

You can get a relay and associated parts most anywhere, Wally World, autozone, tractor supply etc. In the following link, Ryan bought a wiring kit for fog/off-road lights.

I know this is the starter relay upgrade, but it's relay wiring 101. The difference for you will be you need constant key-on power to terminal 86 and you will connect terminal 87 to your fuel pump. The ground and fused 12v on the other 2 terminals is the same. :beerchug:

I will slight expand on this. I have slightly modified the diagram to fit your needs.

Ok I finally found time to hook up this fuel pump. I wired it as per Rolands diagram. I have power to the pump you can hear the pump working but no start. I found that now I have no spark. I pulled the orange wire in my case from the ignition switch & took a wire from the 86 terminal to where the orange wire was & just left the orange wire unhooked. Should I splice those 2 wires together so they both plug into the ignition switch? Thanks

NOT GOOD......!!!!

The Orange HAS TO HAVE power to it. No power - No ignition.

Fix and/or repair the orange to where it originally was.

At this point I did not do anything to the orange wire but just unhook it from the switch

When you fix this situation........the Orange wire feeds the Seat Switch (you have to sit in the seat to get ignition). From there the power goes on to the Ignition Coil.

The PO has the seat switch bypassed did not look to see how it was done but it will start without in the seat

Once you repair the Orange Wire situation and IF you have a DVM or VOM, take this measurement.

With the Meter set for VDC scale that will handle 12V. Place the Black lead to somewhere on the chassis ground (or battery negative terminal). The Red lead goes on the Ignition Coil (+) terminal. You should have ~12VDC with the Ignition Key in the run position.

What do you have...??
