Asphalt pullers?

What tires do you guys like that pull asphalt? Have a pull in a few weeks on a side street and was wondering what you guys like for tires. I have few different sets of turf tires that would be legal for my class. I'm figuring the widest set will be the choice due to the fact that I can't imagine getting any traction. Also how do you guys set weight? I'm thinking put all I can on the rear?

Never pulled on asphalt but I here there is not much traction. Load the rear up.

goodyear soft tracs in 2 or 4 ply or the Carlisle . I've used them all and preferred the 4 ply goodyear but the Carlisle is a bigger tire and you can run a higher tire psi . they all work, if its legal sipe them.

Is it true that I'm wasting my time using I tire that's seen lawn use? I was told the acid in grass makes the rubber compound to hard and you can't bring them back no matter how hot they get. Any truth to this? And unfortunately the rules state 23x10.50 and no modifications.

A lot of drag race guys will coat the tire in lighter fluid and light it, the fire burns out before the tire burns but it leaves the tires nice and soft. Just pull the valve stem so the extra pressure from the heat doesn't blow the tire, have a garden hose handy just in case.

Back in 1968 and 69 we pulled once a year on asphalt at a fair,so instead of different tires we put our bar tires on backwards.it worked ok.

actually the sun hardens the tires.

the widest tire works best. surprisingly there is pretty good bite. you do need to learn to read the tracks. some have allot more bite than others

Stuff to soften your tires for more grip. May not be legal depending on the rules you run. :biggrin2:

Find an older wheel that is narrower than yours. Say a 23x900.
Put some sheet metal screws through the wheel into the beads.
Lower the air pressure to about 2-3 Lbs.
Makes a bigger footprint. Old drag racing trick.
