1861 spindle and pulley question
 

Have a question on my spindle and pulley assembly. looks like I caught a rock and somehow got into the deck to pto pulley. belt got shredded, dented the pulley on both pulley faces. took spindle off replaced bearings and belt, bent pulley faces enough to clear belt. tried to run mower deck and the tensioner pulley on the mule drive moves about 1 1/2 inches back and forth and eventually jumps the belt off the deck pulley. obviously need a new pulley but still have a lot of up and down and right to left movement on the spindle. my question is do i also need a new spindle? it is kind of beat up on the outside but inside looks fine. The old bearings even seemed ok just replaced them since it was out. Thanks Brad

I don't see why you replaced the bearing. Hitting a rock wouldn't have hurt them. Sounds like you assembled it incorrectly. The spindle should be tight. I'd say that's what's causing the belt to "hop".
