Mowing deck not lifting evenly
Hello all. I've got a 1450 with the 44A mower deck.
When I lift the deck it tilts so that the right side is much higher than the left side. I can't figure it out. The spirol pins for the lift mechanism are all in place. Any ideas? |
You should have one adjustable lift link on the mule drive. If not our sponsors may have them.

The spirol pins often shear off inside, and the lift arm will move. With the lift up check that the arms are both at the same height, if not replace the spirol pin. If both arms are at the same height then you need to adjust the adjustable side coupler.

Spirol pins are in place and I have tried adjusting the lift links to my wits end. The mower is level when it is down at mowing height, but when it lifts it gets all cockeyed.

It sure sounds like a spirol pin is broken inside and the weight of the deck is causing the lift arm to slip when you lift it. It's hard to see but a small movement on the lift arm causes a big difference when at top of lift.
I have had broken spirol pins and there is usually enough resistance to move the arm but not 100 percent. Removing broken pins is a pain also. |
I also agree that it sounds like a spiral pin, I know you said there good but plenty of people have come to this site with this issue and claimed that the pins were good only to find out later they weren't. Unless you drive the pins out and confirm that they are not broken and in good shape then all your doing is guessing.

When I first picked up the tractor I did a small mechanical restoration that included replacing the pins. I am very sure they are solid.

When the deck is all the way down, and you have the tunnel cover off looking @ the lifting arms, and you lift it with the hydraulics, are the lift arms coming up evenly?
if not, then you have a broken pin on the low side. they do sometimes break. Obviously the low side arm is not lifting it for you. |
When the deck is down, is it hanging in the air level or is it resting on the left wheel and giving the appearance it is level? The gauge wheels on a 44a should be set just off the ground if your on a level paved surface. If the wheel hitting the ground is causing it to level out, I'll subscribe to the spirol pin theory. When you replaced them you used spirol pins not roll pins correct? There is a difference, a standard roll pin will shear easier.
