129 PTO disc spring
When I took my screeching PTO apart it did not have any disc springs, I bought all the broken parts and today I read the assembly instructions so now I know about the three disc springs. What do they do? what keeps them attached to the pulley?

Are you talking about the three coil springs that go on the "through bolts" or are you talking about the three hair pin shaped "Anti-rattle clips" that keep the clutch disk from making noise?

Yosemite, not the coil springs, the hairpin shaped ones. You called them anti-rattle so that's what they do. What keeps them in and what rattle do they eliminate?

Bombur: They keep the teeth of the disc from rattling against the flutes of the pulley. They can and will, without the anti-rattle springs.They stay in place because they are springs! - spring pressure. The flat side goes against the side of the flute of the pulley and the other side with the lip on one end goes behind the tooth to keep it from falling out forward...Ya have to use all three for the spring pressure to be really effective. I insert mine one flute to the left of the PTO pulley set screw holes.

You might have the springs figured out by now but the easiest way I've found to install them is when you're putting the pto back on the bearing. It takes a little patience. Like Myron said, pick a flute next to the set screw holes to maintain symetry and put all three in a little at a time as you slide the pto on. I also install the long, pointed set screw to right before it protrudes. When you get the pto on the screws will help seat everything.

I found out the hard way, don't do this in the grass. I dropped one of mine and I only had 2 left to install.
