K161 question
so my question is what is the clunking sound coming from the engine and it's not a rod knock. Even if i spin it over slowly by hand at one certain spot there is a cu-lunk sound in one certain spot kinda like a mag camming over.......What is it?:bash2: Thanks

clunkin
are you turning it over by the pto? if so the pto makes a clunk when you do that
|
No, there is no pto just the engine.
|
yes it does run...........anything is possible but i don't think that's it because i can turn it over very slowly and it still does it (let me stress this.......Very slowly)

I'm thinking the cam is reaching the over center position on the lifter, and the snap is the clearance being taken up between the cam gear and the crank gear, I know I sure can hear it on my m-18 kohler twin.
It took me a while to find it, and yes, it has a "snap" like a magneto on the starting cam |
That could be it. I'm not sure but I know it will get the best of me and I'll have to tear it down and find out. Might as well, I'm refurbishing everything else on the old girl. By the way, thanks to everyone who has tried to help. My name is Ron,I'm from DuBois,PA and I am restoring a 61 original serial no. 2495 that was my fathers. It was the first one I drove as a kid. it has been sitting in the basement of an old school for about fifteen years.
