Hydro Pump Questions
I am rebuilding a 1650 that has the hydraulic lift. After taking the tractor apart I can tell it has had a hard life. I also have a hydro/transmission unit from a 1250 that has been in the family since new. If I put the 1250 unit into the 1650, do I just remove the caps on the 1250 hydro pump that are where the hydraulic hoses connect on the 1650 pump and put in the ones from the 1650 pump? Or is there something different about the pumps (more to it than just moving the hydraulic fittings)?
I know if I use the 1650 hydro/transmission, I will have to replace all the bearings and seals, which are kinda costly now...... Thanks for your help, Mike |
There are some other parts your going to need. You can probably rob them out of the other pump...... but...... What's wrong with the hydro in the 1650? You said something about bearings and seals. All the seals on the entire unit aren't but maybe $35 total, and it's rare that a bearing is bad. (In a hydro unit) :bigthink:

Most hydro pumps from a 1250 do not have the ports for a hydraulic lift system.

The 1250 hydro pump that I have does have the ports but they have plugs in them. Is this an indication that it is ready for hydraulics or just that they went to standard casings for the pumps?

Again I ask, what is wrong with the other pump that it can't be used? Seals are cheap. They can be purchased from most all local part stores. |
I know that Dale knows A LOT of stuff about A LOT of stuff and I value his opinion over anyone else, but I believe that I read somewhere that after a certain serial number, IH stopped using the non ported pumps and chose to use ported ones with plugs in them and I believe it was somewhere during the Quiet Line run.
Although the pumps were ported, I believe that the weaker spring (same spring used in the non ported pumps) was used in them to prevent damage to the internal parts and would need to be changed before a lift could be used effectively. |
My late(last 400 in production) 129 had a ported pump with the plugs. I had to replace the upper implement relief valve with another spring that is stronger and the OE spring with a cone goes into the side charge relief spot. This bumps up the pressure.

My 129 is a '73 and its pump is ported. Is that spring available at cub cadet or where did you get it fleetside? My 149 has made my lazy!

Are the owners of the 129 and 1250 that have the ported pump are the ones who purchase the tractor new? To make sure we are on the same page-Is the cap ports coming out the front of the hydro pump?
I did a parts look up on a IH Cub Cadet 1250 in the Cub Cadet parts look up. Part number 717-3032 is the part number for a Transmission Assembly Hydrostatic Drive (non ported pump?). Part number 717-3033 is the part number for a Transmission Assembly Hydrostatic Drive ( for tractors with hydraulic lift)(ported pump?). What is the difference?? My guess is the 2 different part numbers should tell us there was a ported and non ported Hydro pump. Odds are there was and one of the reasons itwas cheaper to purchase with the non ported pump. Look under Cub Cadet part finder http://www.cubcadet.com/webapp/wcs/s...101&langId=-1# Under the heading: Find Parts By Model-Click on Garden tractor Click on select-drop down window will appear-Click on model-this case 1250 Click on select-another drop down window will appear-Click on Hydrostatic Transmission First 2 listed have the part numbers for Hydrostatic Transmission listed-one for hydraulic lift and one without hydraulic lift. Odds are the transmission pump has been change sometime in the tractor's life. |
