Cc 1641

Been working as much as possible, between snow removal "chores" on our "new" gorgeous, poor old, Cub.

The hydraulic fluid is reading low, a few leaks at the lift valve which we're workin' on.

Other than deal with the local Cub dealer, what hydraulic fluid is acceptable?

If I top off the fluid would "the other" fluid mix OK or am I askin' for trouble?

The leak doesn't exist unless I use the hydraulic lift, up 'n down. :bigthink:

Any hydraulic/transmission fluid is ok. TSC (or any "farm" store) should carry the IH Hy-Tran equivalent. Dexron III is very close too.

If it only leaks when using the lift, either your cylinder is leaking, or a line. Take the tunnel cover off and should be pretty obvious where it is coming from.

Thanks J-Mech!

Been looking at the hyd lift valve and believe one of the O-rings (#3) on the diagram is a leaker.

The service manual is great! Thanks Sam Max for a copy.

Is there a place in the manual that sizes the O-rings? Or, what size are the #3 O-rings?

The more I look at this poorly treated Cubbie the more I like it. Springtime a bit of sandblasting and spray painting is high on the list. Grandsons demand this Cub groomed! :coffee:

Thanks Sam we need to save these machines. I used to watch the red Cubs when I was in my 20's. Too much $$$ for me. My boss had a red IH Low Boy!

My 2nd property, 3/4 acre, I purchased a Craftsman. Had it for a month, sold it. A friend delivered a basket case Wheel Horse, I still have a few. I fab'd 316 SS mower decks for the Horses. Dealer tried to stick a magnet to the deck, no go. What's under this red paint? :bigthink:

University of DE, Ag School, I purchased a '32 Farmall and joined the Rough 'n Tumble in Kinzers, PA (http://www.roughandtumble.org/). Why? Cause my sons and I needed to! Now grandsons "need to". We donated the Farmall to the Lancaster PA Boys Club for their summer farmin'. I loved their hard cider!

Sandblaster is ready. MIG welder is set. Paint sprayer on standby. Grandsons and sons chompin' at the bit.

Nice looking Wheel Horse's. Pretty sure Jeff in Pa is a member of Rough 'n Tumble.
