'95 Cub Cadet 1641
 

Grandson "needed" a Cub Cadet! We found a '95 1641, inexpensive for my retired low income. Picked up the tractor and now the barn work begins.

Grandson used a couple spray cans, PB Blaster on the hardware. A good start.
Then we used a grease gun on the zerk fittings. Three we saw on a downloaded owners manual, two on the drive shaft and one on the low steering box. Those we didn't see. Guess didn't look hard enough when the side covers were off.

Is there an easy way to access the three grease fittings? Use ramps?

Did carb cleanup, new battery, grandson did some shining. The cub looks great!

He did drive the Cub, needed "driving lessons." :biggrin2:

The deck is off and on saw horses, another project but, looks great other than the paint. Another spring / summer grandson project.

The Cub yellow on the frame, awful. This'll be a spring/summer project. Guessing TSC'll have the Cub yellow?

You can get at the drive shaft fitting by removing the tunnel cover and the side panels and while you have the side panel off you should be able to get at the fitting on the steering box. Recommend you also change the oil and filter for the hydro unless it has been done recently. This link will take you to a bunch of stuff I've done on the Cyclops tractors. The hydro oil and engine oil look clean, and full to the mark. Still, fluid changes are high on our list. Hey the boys rather "play" with tractors than girls at their ages.

Also on our list'll be the hydraulic lift, the lever doesn't move not one ioda. We're thinking, off the tractor, disassemble, clean, reassemble. Thoughts?

When I was young, 67 now, a neighbor had an IH Lowboy. I still remember how badly I wanted that red tractor!

I've seen a few that the spool was stuck. shoot some Power Blaster on it and see if you can get at it with a punch and give it a hit. Just be careful of the plastic lever. If you can get it to move just work it until it frees up. Sometimes you can get at the bottom of it by removing the battery. Sorry but this is the best pic I have of the valve. Red arrow points to the end of the spool.

Grease fittings, one of my favorite things. There are 3 on the front axel alone, I get confused sometimes cause I have several machines I maintain. As Sam said drive shaft and steering gear. There might b one on the deck mule drive. The deck has lots of em remove the belt shield. Should be a fitting on every spindle, every wheel, and front caster pivots, also check the tensioner pullys for after market zerks. Also check your front wheels for wheel bearing zerks.
Things without zerks I use spray grease on moving parts, my favorite is Castles muscle grease. Just keep that stuff off your belts and pully grooves, it will make them prone to slippage.

Sam right on the money, removed side panel and was able to grease the steering box as well as the forward drive shaft zerk fitting.

I can't, don't want to force, remove the low center panel. The little knob on the hydraulic release doesn't want to let the panel raise. Is the knob a press on? Thread on?

The knob unscrews and the you can remove the cover.

I keep the grease gun up front! With time to spare, lots of grease! PB Blaster too!

The deck is now on saw horses, covered, will be a spring project for the boys. The deck does look great, was greased 'n oiled before put up.

We do intend to make the poor '95 Cubbie look like new! And perform like new too!

The grandsons and I take frequent trips to Home Cheapo and Lowes when the outdoor equipment is on display. We laugh, giggle, smile, watching the uneducated purchase new junqué.
