1X8/9 wire size (gauge)

Anyone have a wiring diagram marked up with recommended wire gauge?

Wire size is determined by load.
What wires are you replacing? All?

ford4150 01-17-2015 03:20 AM

All of them. The existing wires are pretty hacked up; spliced poorly, worn insulation, corroded terminals, missing fuse holder for the lights, etc. I moved the VR from the battery box to the front, behind the upper grille. The neutral start switch and PTO start switch don't exist, so I'm eliminating those from the new wiring.

I'm planning on 6 ga from battery to solenoid/ solenoid to S/G, 6 ga ground for battery and S/G, and 12 ga for everything else, using stranded copper and soldered connections.

Just my 2 cents but if your rewiring the complete tractor you just can't beat getting a complete harness from Mike.

Plug and play. I have 2 from him and he's making me spark plug wires for the 2182's now.

12 ga for everything else,
12GA is overkill.........14GA is more than adequate. IIRC, IH used 16GA.

That's the information I was searching for. Thanks.

Agree with 14g. That's what I've been using. That's good for at least 15A. No circuit on the tractor (other than the actual starter) runs close to that.

I'll second that. Top notch wire harness.:beerchug:

I finished making the wire harness yesterday. No need to purchase one.

That was quick!
Can we see some pics of it so others who want to make there own see how it is done?
