Missing Fly wheel Timing mark K321
OK, I'm putting my 14hp K321 back together tonight. I'm ready to install the fly wheel and started to look for the timing mark which should be a "s" stamped in the wheel but I can't find it anywhere. I was hoping to paint the mark so its easier to see with a timing light once it up and running.
I have the piston at TDC (Compression stroke) Fly wheel on and with the cover on looking through the hole, nothing where I would think it should be. Spent 30min looking all over the flywheel edge and just can't see it. Has anyone ever see this before? (or should I say not ) |
You're never going to find the "S" mark in the window with the piston at TDC. The "T" mark is at TDC, but the "S" mark is 20 degrees before TDC. If the flywheel is really rusty, you may need to wire wheel it a bit to see anything. It's there somewhere.

Thanks Matt and Wild Bill!
I was hoping if I did find the T the S would be close by! The marks must be very faint, I don't consider my fly wheel very rusty where it would stop me from seeing the marks but I will polish it up tomorrow and take a closer look! |
Timing Mark on my K321A

Here it is with eng removed. Marks are "OC" for TDC, and "SP" for timing mark. Took me FOREVER to find this. You can see the S/G bracket hole forward of the sight hole in the bearing plate.
