Timing marks

I have a 149 and was looking for the timing hole and mark on it this evening.

Is it on the right side inside the frame or were is it?

I know where it's at on my 129.

Should be up under the starter generator.

I'll look again, the 14 hp is a lot wider, and sits closer to the frame.

Any luck finding the sight hole on your 149 Pat?
I'm looking for it on my 149 also an am not seeing it.
Thanks,
Ian

Yes it's on the back side of the shroud, under the S/G bracket.

Go here 149 Timing hole.

Thanks Pat. I pulled my s/g but must have overlooked that hole.

I pulled my s/g off to double check for the sight hole, and there isn't one there.
I'm beginning to wonder if my motor is the one this 149 was born with.
Anyway, I've attached pics of where your sight hole was and where mine isn't and also one of the serial #'s on the flywheel shroud. I know the shroud could be original and the motor replaced, but wanted to put it up anyway.
Another reason I think my motor may be different is the s/g belt. On mine, I have it adjusted all the way out to the end of the bracket and the belt still isn't as tight as it should be. All the other pics I've seen of 149's, those belts are right about at the center of the bracket.
What do you all think? Is there a serial number somewhere on the block?
Any other places to look for a timing sight hole?
Thanks,
Ian

Due to the fact it's 2 different colors I think you're right. My 129 is on the side. I think somebody probably changed the motor or maybe some parts.

I stuck sandpaper in through the side and sanded the flywheel, and the marks are there. Since your's had the late model PTO/w brake on the front it may be an later model.

It might be that lower half-moon shaped hole in the bearing plate.

Mine has the half moon hole as well.
