Tearing my hair out

All I want to do is till!!!

So tonight, I was tilling, and it seemed as if the tractor was loosing power. At first, it seemed to be the throttle cable, as it creeps down as it runs. Eventually, it got to where the throttle was at full, but it only seemed to be running at 1/2 throttle.

Then it started to bog. Then diesel to the point where it kept running when I shut it off. I fired it back up and got it to speed, dropped the tiller in the ground, and it bogged and dieseled again.

When I drove back to the barn, I lost the ability to run full throttle. Now it only idles and diesels when trying to rev it up.

What the heck happened?!!?

What model of tractor you running?? Govenor problems????

Check the points, make sure they didn't slide together on you.
Are you sure you have good clean fuel?
Couple easy things to check :biggrin2.gif:

Thanks for the thoughts.

The tractor is a 1450.

The fuel is a little aged, as it was purchased in January. I plan on checking the points and see if the coil is loose in any way.

How about timing? How do you time one of these, and how would it go out of time? I am familiar with old Briggs engines, and I don't believe there is a way to get one of them out of time once it is set. Are these Kohlers the same way?

THe linkages appeared to work OK. In what daylight I had left, I was able to check on the carb and governor linkages. All appear OK.

I sure hope it isn't rings, but it doesn't smoke at all, so I don't belive that to be the problem. I plowed snow all winter, and now am tilling and have yet to use a drop of oil, unlike my 782 that smokes, leaks and burns oil.

This happened on my 1450 a couple of years ago.

The Condenser became loose, thus loosing it's ground connection. Had all the symptoms you described. So, I remounted the condenser and made sure that there was a good ground, and all was well.

Same thing happened on my 1450 last year.
Ended up being the condenser wire had broke off. Put a new condenser on and good as new!

Darn thing fired right up and went back to work with no issues after a rest for a few days. I guess I was working it too hard?!

I'd check the issues that people were saying with the condenser. It may do ok today, but if it is loose or damaged wire the problem can be intermittent.
